Echo Web Framework

Prior to January 23, 2008 at 00:30 UTC, the download link for 2.1.rc3 was in fact providing an older release. If you downloaded Echo2 2.1rc3 before this time, please re-download a new version immediately. While this problem did not affect all downloads, we highly recommend that you download a new version now to be certain you have the correct item.

You can verify that you have the correct version by one of two methods:

• Verify the file "/SourceCode/src/app/java/nextapp/echo2/app/ApplicationInstance.java" contains the text "2.1.rc3".
• In a browser, view the source of an Echo application compiled with your 2.1rc3 and be certain it contains the text "2.1.rc3".

A new, long-awaited release candidate of Echo2 is now available. This is mostly a bugfix release, bugs.nextapp.com is now nearly devoid of Echo2 bugs, please get them in soon if you want them fixed for 2.1 final. Downloads are available here: http://echo.nextapp.com/site/echo2/download

A new EchoStudio build will be available soon, though there are a couple bugfixes in the queue before this one drops.

Echo2Chart provides a component for display JFreeChart-based charts within Echo2 applications. Echo2Chart is licensed under the Mozilla Public License (MPL), though the required JFreeChart library is licensed under the GNU Lesser/Library General Public License (LGPL).

Currently no official releases of Echo2Chart are available. To use it, you will need to download the latest source code from the repository below and compile it yourself. A demo application is included.

Echo2FileTransfer provides a collection of Echo2 components that enable the transfer of files between web clients and the server. It makes use of Apache Jakarta Commons File Upload library to facilitate file uploads.

Echo2FileTransfer is licensed under the Mozilla Public License (MPL). Optionally, the user can license the software under the GNU Lesser/Library General Public License (LGPL) or the GNU General Public License (GPL).

Source Code Repository

Echo2 Extras provides a collection of additional user interface components for the Echo2 framework. This project is currently under development and should be considered beta-quality software.

Echo is a platform for building web-based applications that approach the capabilities of rich clients. The applications are developed using a component-oriented and event-driven API, eliminating the need to deal with the "page-based" nature of browsers. To the developer, Echo works just like a user interface toolkit.

Echo2 is the current stable version of the framework. The 2.1RC releases are recommended for production use. A 2.1.0 version will be released in the very near future.

Echo is open-source software, licensed under the Mozilla Public License.
