Echo3 Beta8 release soon?

oliverp's picture

Hi there,
i would like to talk about the release plan of Echo3.
- Echo3 - 3.0.rc1 is 91% and Echo3 Extras rc1 38% are complete (quoting mantis tracker), so how about beta8?
- There is no date for the RC1 nor the Final Release? Is there a date at all for this milestone and the final release? You can imagine this maybe important for planning projects.

Regards,
Oliver

Beta8 is definitely overdue.

Beta8 is definitely overdue. We made some fairly substantial changes during April/May, and I wanted to make certain they were solid (e.g., the clientKey???? methods which now available to peers). Beta8 needs to go within two weeks or so, but I want to get the File Transfer component in line first so that a release of it can be done alongside Echo and Extras.

Don't have a date set on RC1 or final. Regrettably the beta cycle is almost as bad as Google's (e.g., Gmail is still beta).

Yippy

Thanks for your open and fast response.
I would definitely like to help bringing the project to a final release soon. So you may propose how I can join to help, e.g. java/ javascript coding, documentation, testing, review, forum...

Regards,
Oliver

Most of the development work that needs to be done is browser-based stuff. The bugtracker roadmap offers a fairly good assessment of what needs to be done, but always open to other improvements as well Can always use more docs and improvements to the current ones. Also have set up an "articles" section in the Echo3 docs (it's currently pretty thin), if you're interested in writing up anything that doesn't necessarily fit in the developer's guide. Review is of course hugely appreciated, the more the better, be it looking at the core of the framework or improving rendering of individual components. And, as always, the more bug reports, the better.

Greatly appreciate any help
