tliebeck's picture

Echo3 Beta2, Echo3 Extras Beta2, and EchoStudio3 Beta1 are now available! Many thanks to everyone for the contributions, patches, and bug reports. The latest changes are reflected in the Echo3 Demo App.

EchoStudio3 is now also available as a pre-order, with pricing reduced by 20% while the product is beta. Developers who purchase the product in the pre-order period will receive one year of free upgrades from the date of the 3.0 release (rather than the date of purchase). Additionally, upgrade pricing is available for current EchoStudio licensees (at 50% of the full version price). Please contact NextApp to obtain an upgrade discount code. EchoStudio3 is of course available free of charge to EchoStudio2 users who are within their one-year free upgrade eligibility period.

Notable improvements to Echo3 beta2 relative to beta1 include:

  • Improved layout capabilities: Layouts components such as SplitPanes can now auto-size regions to the needs of their content. Percent and text-size relative positioning is supported throughout the framework. Using these capabilities, user interfaces can scale properly with changes in font size and/or display pixel density.
  • Documentation improvements: All sections of the Echo3 (and CoreJS) developer guides are now available. The process of authoring Echo3 components that render custom HTML and JavaScript has been fully documented. Complete client-side and server-side API documentation is available.
  • Performance improvements, polish, cleanups, and testing: Echo3 passes lint tests, is memory stable and responsive even in old browsers (IE6) on old hardware, and has generally matured a great deal since beta1.

As of beta1, EchoStudio3's features include:

  • A WYSIWYG, point-and-click Form Editor.
  • A StyleSheet editor for creating application themes.
  • Project creation wizards, with various project templates including an example E-Mail application.
  • Ability to run and debug Echo applications from within Eclipse using a built-in Jetty servlet container.
  • An Echo2 -> Echo3 Migration Wizard to convert Echo2 applications to Echo3. This feature DOES NOT require that the source application have been created with EchoStudio for Echo2.
  • A rendered component wizard to generate new HTML/JavaScript rendering components.

EchoStudio is commercial software, licensed per developer. Pre-order pricing starts at $399 for a one-developer license. Upgrades are free for users who purchased EchoStudio2 within the past year, and are otherwise 50% of the purchase price.

EchoStudio3 is not shown in eclipse...?

Hello,

I did download the new beta1 release of echo studio 3 (http://www.nextapp.com/downloads/echostudio3/v3_0_0_beta1/EchoStudio.zip),
deleted my old nextapp.es.3.0.0.b0 folder, unzipped the new version as nextapp.es.3.0.0.b1 folder.

After starting eclipse I don't have any echo perspective, seems it does not recognize the plugin.... ?

Anyone seen this ?

Temporary workaround: rename

Temporary workaround: rename the "nextapp.es.3.0.0.b1" folder to "nextapp.es.3.0.0.b0".

Have seen this problem, do not yet understand what Eclipse is doing here. Prior to Ganymede (3.4) it was perfectly acceptable to replace plugins in this fashion. Let me know if you see any errors in your Eclipse log related to this, the problem is being somewhat difficult to track down as my log contains no information.

Updated version on the

Updated version on the server (same location) now has folder named "nextapp.es.3.0.0.b0" as in the previous version, so new downloads, so hopefully no one else will encounter this bug.

This worked.

Unfortunally I also did not see any errors in in eclispe log...

What I see is that all other plugins of eclispe have a name/folder like javax.xml.soap_1.2.0.v200806030421
They seem to have a .v<date> part after the "real" version number. Perhaps this is some sort of indicator for the IDE ?
